Beta Upsilon Chapter at San Jose State University
BETA CLASS
Vanessa Aldaz
Hello! My name is Vanessa Aldaz. I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I am from Anaheim, CA, which is not in LA or LA county, but in Orange County. I am one of two from my whole high school that attended San Jose State, so I did not have a strong support system until I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon. I gained not only over 20 sisters but over 20 friends I can count on when I feel homesick or need help on a homework assignment. Without the sorority, I would have never gotten closer or possibly talk to my best friend. Some of my favorite things to do is play tennis, cook, and waste hours looking at new recipes on Pinterest. Some fun facts about me are most of my fingers are double jointed, I love One Direction, and oh I'm vegan so don't poison me! My favorite meals to make are veggie steak taquitos, spring rolls, and portobello mushroom sandwich with hummus. I have lots of favorite tv shows, but the top would be Walking Dead and Family Guy.
Rachel Bui
HEY! My name is Rachel Bui. I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I lived my whole life in the Bay (San Jose). I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon because I wanted to have sisters for life and have some kind of “college experience” since I commute. I love to hang out with anyone who is down. Being active is my niche but I can also be a lazy potato. A fun fact about me is that I have prescription glasses but I do not wear them at school because I think I look weird, so I am always in the front of the class. My all-time favorite television show is Lost Girl (it is a Canadian show) and I have watched all five seasons about three times (still waiting for Netflix to post more seasons!). What I can eat all day er’day are PEANUT BUTTER JELLY SANDWICHES.

Katie Burrows
Hi, my names Katie Burrows, and I’m studying to be an Electrical Engineer. I was born in Las Vegas, but grew up in New York, and then moved across country to the valley in California, between San Francisco and Disneyland. I’m a certified Netflix binge watcher, my favorite show being the 100, but I’m always open to hang out and watch something new and interesting. My favorite food to make is Lumpia. I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon because I wanted to have a support system to help get me through the rigorous engineering curriculum.
Alondra Cabrera Ruiz
Hello, my name is Alondra. I am currently pursuing a Computer Engineering degree and a Mathematics Minor. My hometown is Richmond California...not Virginia, which is about 15 minutes North of UC Berkeley. I decided to join AΩE because I wanted to meet other female engineers that I could relate to and build a life-time bond with. My favorite tv shows are SUPERNATURAL and Criminal Minds. I love action movies and Christmas movies! I love Mexican food: tamales, pozole, enchiladas, tacos, mole sauce, everything! A couple fun facts about myself is that I made (produced, directed, acted, edited etc.) my own music video for my Senior project in high school and I also lived in Mexico for 3 years.
Monica Cervantes
Hello, my name is Monica Cervantes (I also go by Moni). I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering at San Jose State University, but my hometown is Sacramento. I decided to join Alpha Omega Epsilon because I didn’t have many female friends within this male- dominant field and hearing that there was an “engineering” sorority just put sparkles in my eyes. Fun facts about myself is I am left handed and love chocolate. My favorite tv show is The Walking Dead, Scorpion, and Grey’s Anatomy. And lastly, my ultimate favorite food of all time is… CHURROS.
Lyzett Lavenant
HOLA! My name is Lyzett Lavenant and I am majoring in Microbiology with two minors, in Chemistry and Environmental studies. I have a passion for helping and building connections with those all around me. I enjoy listening and dancing to Latin music. I'm a chocoholic and enjoy baking. Some of my favorite series are Shameless, Game of thrones, and Stranger Things! I have a soft spot for dogs and kawaii things. I joined AΩE because I wanted to develop a stronger sense of community and support system, as well as making some more lifetime friends!
Mariecor Maranoc
Hello! My name is Mariecor. Fun fact: My name may be difficult to pronounce so to help y’all out it is a combination of my grandmas’ names, Maria and Corazón, and the “e” in the middle represents my middle initial. I grew up in Lathrop, California and now attend San José State University majoring in Computer Engineering.
I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon because it was a great opportunity for me to make connections and create a strong bond of sisterhood with women who are also passionate in engineering/technical sciences. I now feel more comfortable and confident in continuing to pursue my bachelor's degree in engineering from a constant loving supporting second family whom I call my sisters. My interests are playing the piano, watching movies, going on new adventures with friends, and discovering new music. My favorite tv show is Friends and I am always down to eat sushi, In-N-Out, or Filipino food! I hope that one day I work at a film industry as a Software Engineer and expand my studies towards graphic design and film.
Alyssa Ruiz
Hi! My name is Lyssa Ruiz, I graduated majoring in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in thermal fluid systems. I'm originally from Southern California, Whittier, CA to be exact. I came up to San Jose four years ago as a freshman. Joining AΩE I gained a group of strong girl friends that I would not have had otherwise, girls that I would have never crossed paths with nor shared my life with. I encourage any girl looking for mentors and friends to come out and learn about everything AΩE has to offer both in the social and professional realms. I love to practice yoga and cook, you can catch me on my snap show "Cooking with Lyssa" mainly featuring vegan dishes because those I will make from scratch most of the time. My favorite TV show is Gilmore Girls so if you want to spend some time eating nothing but junk food and drinking large amounts of coffee while binge watching GG, I got you. I don't really have a favorite food but I'm willing to try almost anything. - Dare to be different.
Tanisha Shah
Hi, my name is Tanisha Shah. I am an international student majoring in biomedical engineering. I was born in Mumbai, India and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. The main reason why I joined AΩE is because I am very passionate about inspiring and helping future women engineers and I want to encourage more girls to pursue this field. Plus, I wanted to surround myself with a great group of women that share the same passion. A fun fact about me is that I love reading. My favorite novels are the Harry Potter series and The Kite Runner. Whenever I got out to eat I am always up for Italian food. I love watching any Marvel or Disney movie and absolutely love Shonda Rhimes shows (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder).
Sanjana Shetty
Hi I’m Sanjana. I am a Software Engineering major with a minor in Math and Humanities. I am from Cupertino, the land of Milk Tea, so I’m super picky when it comes to my milk tea or anything tea related. On my free time, if engineering majors even have any, I like photography, hiking, going to music festivals/concerts, eating food, sleeping and binge watching TV shows and movies on Amazon Prime and Netflix. Some of my favorite shows are House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Night Manager, Goliath, Flash and many more but I am too lazy to list them all out. I joined AΩE because I liked the people I met, they made me feel comfortable to be myself and the diversity of the girls.
Wanisha Siripakdi
Hello everyone! My name is Wanisha Siripakdi. I am majoring as a biomedical engineer and would like to learn more about tissue engineering as I continue my education. I am a January baby and winter is my favorite season. Christmas, warmth, and hot cocoa is my satisfaction. I am Thai and very grounded with my culture. I was raised by my grandparents since birth and my grandpa taught me everything I know (literally; he’s very smart). I am very appreciative of him. I am also a lifeguard and love the outdoor. Dancing and watching dog videos cheer me up when I am stressed because it clears my mind. I’m also very into Korean/Asian skincare and love to test out different skincare products. I love Kpop as well. They make me smile and brightens up me life.
I wanted to join Alpha Omega Epsilon because I felt like this was a great opportunity to start networking and start doing something with my future. I felt like this sorority is a gateway to many open doors. I have met some of the most genuine people in this sorority that I appreciate to have in my life.
Angelina Villa
Hello there! My name is Angelina Villa and I am a Biomedical Engineering student here at SJSU. I am from Sacramento, California and owe my success all to my amazing parents. I enjoy spending time with my doggo Pancho, running, working out, and hiking on my free time. I love watching Ellen and documentaries. I hope to one day be on Naked Afraid! I love love love spending with my big Isadora and working/planning things together for the sorority. I am happiest when working with or helping children and I hope to one day have a career that allows me to do so.
I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon because I come from a family of 5 sisters and missed having someone to bond and laugh with it and I knew these amazing women would help me forget all about my homesickness. Being apart of AΩE has given me so much. I’ve grown so much as an individual and have created life long bonds with the most brilliant women. AΩE has taught me that I am capable of more than I could have ever dreamed. This sorority has helped me build self confidence, leadership skills, networking skills, and have exposed me to opportunities I would have never thought were possible. I love this family and I love helping others grow and find their true potential!
