Elizabeth Bremberg

Hello! I am Elizabeth Bremberg, a Mechanical Engineering major specializing in Mechatronics. Growing up in the heart of Silicon Valley, I’ve constantly been surrounded by technology. From as far back as I can remember, I’ve had opportunities to be exposed to and explore different levels of science and technology, going to the many different museums in our area with my family, being a diehard fan of MythBusters on TV, and even getting a personal tour of parts of NASA Ames Research Center from a family friend. Eventually, I found my way to the Girl Scouts robotics troop, the Space Cookies VEX Team, where I learned hardware and software development, and soft skills for six years in an all-girl team environment. This experience had such a profound impact on my life that I want to continue and become a Roboticist, preferably in the Bay Area which I have grown to love.

Outside of robotics and engineering, I also have a strong passion for music. I learned to play the flute when I was in 5th grade and played in my schools’ bands from 6th grade through my high school graduation. I also enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, crochet and knitting, and PC gaming. I’m also a huge San Jose Sharks fan, and really enjoy watching gaming, comedy, crafting, and food YouTubers.

I found Alpha Omega Epsilon thanks to a friend I met through my robotics team and my Intro to Engineering class at San Jose State. After attending recruitment events and getting to know all of the Sisters, I knew that I just had to try to join this fantastic group of young women who would provide me with support, guidance, and sisterhood that I would never have gotten anywhere else.

Navneet Sanghera

Hi Everyone! My name is Navneet Sanghera and I am currently majoring in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Molecular Biology and minor in Chemistry. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to work in a field where I could help others, and I have found that love for helping others through research. Currently, I am a research assistant and lab manager at a research lab on campus studying Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). FASD is one of non-genetic leading causes of neurological deficit issues. In the future, I hope to get my PhD and look into researching the underlying causes to possibly prevent, reverse, or relieve the symptoms of fatal diseases known today.

Outside of school and work, I am a big foodie and I love to go out and try different cuisines and dishes to learn more about different cultures. Also, I am a professional at binge watching any shows that are out on Netflix, Hulu, and HBOmax. Sadly, I have not had the opportunity to explore the world and go travel to many places due to school, work, or breaks being at different times. The top three places I currently want to travel to are Mexico, Greece, and Switzerland.

I joined AOE as a way to form friendships with the sisters in AOE and to gain experience with professional events to help further my career path! My experience so far has been great. AOE is a very friendly and welcoming place that supports STEM careers and women empowerment.

Leticia Nunez

Hey! My name is Leticia Nunez, however I mainly go by my nickname Letty! I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA specifically Van Nuys. I relocated to Silicon Valley to attend San Jose State and have loved the Bay Area ever since. I am currently pursuing my bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with the goal to become a Field Engineer within the construction industry. Growing up in Los Angeles, I was always surrounded by construction sites and would drive by high rises on a regular basis. I was always intrigued by the knowledge one can gain in order to erect and safely construct a building that can hold thousands of people. Originally interested in design, I stumbled upon Civil Engineering as a very flexible career path. I have had the pleasure to intern with construction companies, which have helped solidify my interest in the interactive day to day work of a Field Engineer/Superintendent in construction. However, my eyes and ears are still open to any other Civil Engineering disciplines to find where my true passion lies.

I joined AOE to meet more driven and intelligent women pursuing careers in engineering and technical sciences. I have loved the journey so far. I instantly gained 23 sisters and I could not be happier. I cannot wait to see what the future holds! During my college career, I have had the opportunity of being Science Extravaganza Co-Chair where I was able to logistically plan and execute over 70 STEAM virtual workshops to the middle school students in the San Jose area. Through this platform I also hosted virtual workshops on bridge design and Civil Engineering disciplines using my knowledge as a Civil Engineering student.

Aside from school and the crazy life of an engineering student I love to travel, workout, hike, and most importantly eat! You can always find me going to new places on the map around California or even across state lines. I am very adventurous and love to do new things including off-roading, jet skiing, canoeing and even zip lining! I also love to find new food spots around the area with friends and overall live intentionally. One fun fact about me is that I am half Guatemalan and half Salvadorian and I love baseball!

Anna Marie Rafuson

Hello! My name is Anna Marie Rafuson. I am a Civil Engineering student originally from Fresno. Growing up in the Central Valley, the most taken career paths were in agriculture, law, and business, therefore, it was difficult for me to get exposure to STEM related fields. My only opportunity to learn about STEM was when I traveled outside of my hometown or through the screen of a computer. Every time I traveled to the Silicon Valley, I would see fascinating technological designs implemented in vehicles, structures, and handheld devices. By seeing this world outside of my own, I knew I wanted to pursue STEM at SJSU. There was so much opportunity to have an impact. I specifically chose Civil engineering because during my travels, I would see the different architectural styles and I grew interested in how the built environment shapes a community. Questioning the intentions of a structure and how it is integrated within people's lives became a passion of mine and ultimately confirmed my choice in civil engineering.

Outside of academics, I mentioned that I enjoy traveling both domestically and internationally.  I have explored: 35 states in the US, Canada, Mexico, Philippines, England, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. My hobbies include playing tennis, trying dishes of different cultures, expressionist dancing, and orca watching. I would describe my interests as eclectic as I enjoy learning about everything. I just recently learned how to code in Python, drive a stick shift, play a few chords on the guitar, and bake sourdough bread.

I joined A.O.E because I realized that I became content with the fact that females in my engineering courses made up less than 10% of my classes population. As I entered my third year in engineering, I wanted to help change those percentages. I felt that A.O.E had the platform to encourage more females to join the field of engineering and as well as give them a safe space to continue this technical path regardless of the discrepancies that come their way. AOE has the perfect collaboration of experiencing sisterhood while also developing our technical careers and I love that A.O.E has this to offer.
