Katherin Clark

Hello! My name is Katherin Clark, but you can just call me Kat! I was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts and my family moved to California back in 2015. I am now a Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate student at San Jose State University. I am in the process of switching into a new major within the engineering community like Computer Engineering or Software Engineering. What started it all was a Tesla coil model I made in the 6th grade that won the science fair at my elementary school. I have always been fascinated by science and math growing up because of my dad and cousins who worked for companies like Intel. My mother immigrated from Peru and ever since I could remember, she had inspired me to push through anything that comes my way, the same way she has. During my free time, I like to go out on adventures with friends and I’m infatuated with music, so I am always listening to it, or I’m playing my guitar. I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon because I saw a group of women in STEM who come from all backgrounds and came together to support each other as they took on all of college. I have learned so much and have been inspired to do my best by all these beautiful, intelligent, driven, and hardworking women.

Kim Hutain

Hello! My name is Kim Hutain. I was born and raised in Huntington Beach. I am a mechanical engineering major. I was always interested in math and science growing up. My mom was a math major and she has always encouraged me to go into stem. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do with my degree yet since there are many options. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, listening to music and painting. I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon because I wanted to be part of a community of women in STEM that I can turn to at San Jose State University.

Ashley Van

Hello there! My name is Ashley Van. I was born and raised in San Jose California, which is filled with inspiring and motivated engineers. I am a Computer Science major in San Jose State University. I chose this major because of my own curiosity of programming and app development. Due to the increasing reliance on technology and growth in complexity, software engineers are everywhere and I want to learn how to manage and develop websites myself. During my time at San Jose State University, I want to make the most of my time by learning new things and expanding my communication circle. I am also interested in incorporating traveling into my life in order to gain new experiences and make the most of my college years. I joined Alpha Omega Epsilon to learn from other women in my major and to have other women to relate to. I want to expand my connections and also be there for other new engineering women that come into San Jose State University.

Celia Vargas

Hello! My name is Celia Vargas. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. As the youngest in my family and having immigrant parents, I had many aspirations as a child, the main one was to be involved in the sciences. After receiving my associate degree in natural sciences at Cerritos College I transferred to San Jose State University. Now at San Jose State University, I major in environmental studies. The Silicon Valley featured many opportunities both academically and for personal growth. The transfer was a challenge in balancing the new responsibilities of living on my own. Despite work and school, I found support on campus and was able to find a balance to succeed at SJSU. After graduating from San Jose State University, I want to have a career in environmental health. In my free time, I enjoy the outdoors by doing nature photography, trail running, and entering marathon races. The decision to join Alpha Omega Epsilon was to be part of strong intelligent women aspiring for careers in science and technology. I am excited to see where our goals will lead us to and be examples to future women interested in the sciences.
